Tesla Automations not showing or not working
Two different problems: the feature is missing from your car, or a rule you built does not fire. Start with the one that matches.
Quick check: in the US, Canada and Europe the feature has not launched yet. Follow the release date tracker.
Automations is not showing up
Automations is not in my App Launcher
Outside China the feature has not been switched on yet (as of 2026-10-31). Even after release, updates roll out in waves over days or weeks, so a friend may get it before you. Check Controls → Software for the version and its release notes.
I installed the holiday update but still do not see it
Tesla sometimes ships code before enabling it. Read the release notes for that update: if Automations is not mentioned, it is not enabled for your car yet. A reboot (hold both scroll wheels until the screen goes black) will not unlock a feature that is switched off.
My car is older — is that why?
Possibly. Tesla has not published which hardware is required. Cars on the older media computer sometimes miss new features. We will update this once there is a confirmed list.
Some triggers or actions are missing from the list
Options only appear if your car has the hardware: ventilated seats, ambient lighting, rear fog light, wiper heat, a heated steering wheel or a powered liftgate. See the model pages for details.
An automation is not running
The automation did not fire
Automations only run while the center screen is on. If the car was asleep or the screen was off, the trigger was missed.
It never runs while I am driving
Automations do not fire while Autopilot or FSD is engaged. If you were on Autopilot at the moment the trigger happened, it was skipped.
It worked once, then stopped
Check that the automation card is still switched on. Also check conditions: a temperature or battery threshold that was true last time may not be now.
My voice phrase does nothing
Choose a phrase that does not clash with a built-in voice command, say it the same way you typed it, and keep it to two or three words. Voice behavior depends on the regional assistant.
Home or Work triggers never fire
Make sure Home and Work are saved in navigation, and that the location matches where you actually park. A large lot or a garage with poor GPS can confuse arrival detection.
Seat-occupied rules are unreliable
Seat sensors are tuned for adult weight. Light passengers, children in boosters, or a heavy bag on the seat can give the wrong result. Add a seatbelt condition to make the rule stricter.
An action ran but then changed back
Another automation, or the car’s own Auto setting, may be overriding it. Look for two rules that change the same setting, and turn Auto climate off if you want fixed values.
Still stuck?
Rebuild the rule with only the trigger and a single Voice Announcement action. If you hear it, add conditions and actions back one at a time until you find the piece that blocks it.
